Q: What is the FMHS Robotics team?
A: The FMHS Robotics team is a group of high school students who build a robot to compete in the FIRST Overdrive Robotics Competition.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Involvement in the FMHS Robotics
Team will cost $100, depending upon fundraising.

Q: Is there any danger
involved?
A: Yes, but not immediate danger
because they are under constant supervision and anything truly
dangerous would be handled by the adults.

Q: What teams were made during
the construction?
A: The team is separated into
sub-teams. Designers and builders are the most common category. From
there Builders is broken down into Electrical, Programming,
Construction ‘Workers’. Designers will work with modeling the
robot, drawing blueprints, animation, and building the website.
Managing the budget which can
include transportation, advertising, T-shirts, budgeting, and any
other financial needs.

teacher at Fort Mill High
Lynn Monteith, a Digital
Electronics and Mathematics teacher at Fort Mill High

from a local business

Q: Can parents and friends come
and watch and participate?
A: Parents are more
than welcome to come and watch the construction of the robot and if
any parents are specialized in engineering or any field that will
benefit us they are extremely welcome.

Q: Can my child earn
scholarships by doing this program?
A: One from the ASME, American
Society of Mechanical Engineering $5000
One from Pacific University,
Clarkson offers a $6000 scholarship for Seniors, Daniel Webster
College Scholarship $7500 Drexel $8000 to Junior Students who are
active members in FIRST, Durham College $5000, Florida Tech
Institute $10000 for 4 years, Grand Valley $4000, Illinois Tech
$12000, Olin College for Engineering $3500 a year, Polytechnic
University $10000 per year, Purdue $7500 per year.
Being on FIRST can be a major
advantage if your child is interested in engineering or robotics.
